Uva is an interior province located in the Southern part of the island. The region is extremely unique in its feature of a micro-climate resulting from a geographic division caused by the Namunukula mountain range. The savannah-like plains of the Monaragala district strongly contrast with the lush green hill country of the Badulla district, that has been created and sheltered by the northern face of the Namunukula mountain. You would find yourself journeying through a temperate atmosphere to suddenly find yourself in the warmth of a dry zone. As a result, the biodiversity in this region is particularly high.
