The World Surf League (WSL) recently concluded its qualifying-stage event in Sri Lanka, which was held from the 25thto the 29th of September. The idyllic right-hand point breaks of Arugam Bay played host to the event, providing over 125 surfers—representing approximately 30 countries—with a challenging setting in which to prove their mettle. Although the competition has ended, the hype definitely has not!
For some of the athletes, this WSL outing also marked their very first visit to Sri Lanka. While the thrilling waves of Arugam Bay became the focal point, the surfers were also majorly captivated by the scenic beauty of the island, our cuisine, and the good-natured vibe of the people. Did we also mention how much they loved our pristine beaches?
The athletes, who mostly hailed from countries like the USA, Australia, Brazil, and Japan, were ecstatic when sharing their experience here in Sri Lanka. To hear what they had to say, check out these interviews we did with them.
